The seasonal pattern right now (early July). Summer on the St. Johns means an early bite. Work topwater frogs and buzzbaits along the hydrilla and eelgrass edges in the first hour of light, then flip soft plastics into the pads as the sun climbs. Bluegill and shellcracker bed on the new and full moons — easy action for kids and the cooler. Crappie (specks) pull to deeper river bends and canal mouths in the heat; slow-troll minnows or small jigs. On Rodman, fish frogs and flipping baits in the thick stuff early, then the old river run through midday.
